MIFT Constitution

Article I: Name

This organization shall be known as the MACOMB INTERMEDIATE FEDERATION OF TEACHERS, Local 2144 of the AMERICAN FEDERATION OF TEACHERS.

Article II: Objectives

The purpose of this organization shall be:

• To represent the interests of its members in all conditions of employment.
• To obtain for its members all the rights to which they are entitled.
• To raise the standards of the teaching profession by securing the conditions essential to best professional service.
• To cooperate with teachers, paraprofessionals and other community groups to provide better educational opportunity for all.

Article III : Membership

Section 1: Membership shall be open to all non-supervisory professionals, and instructional employees employed by the MACOMB INTERMEDOIATE SCHOOL DISTRICT.

Section 2: No discrimination shall ever be shown toward individual members or applicants for membership because of race, sex, religious faith or political activities or belief.

Section 3: Teachers in public or private institutions outside the jurisdiction of this local may be admitted to membership until such time as a local is chartered in their jurisdiction.

Section 4: A member may be expelled for an act or acts detrimental to the welfare of this organization after presentation of written charges and hearing by a two-thirds vote of the Board.  The member shall have the right to appeal the decision of the Executive Board to membership.  If appealed to the membership, the decision of the Executive Board to expel a member shall not be sustained unless approval by three-fifths of membership, those present and voting.
