Article I: Election Procedures

The secretary and treasurer will prepare a master membership list to be given to the chairperson of the election committee (this list will verify that each member, whether active or on leave, is in good standing, i.e., their dues are paid).

Article II: Nominations for election of officers
  1. The election committee will have nomination petitions printed.
  2. Prospective candidates will obtain petitions from union representatives.
  3. Nominations will be made by petition only. Each petition will require five (5) names.
  4. The election committee will designate a due date upon which all petitions must be in.
  5. The election committee shall notify nominees, in writing, of their nomination.
Article III: Ballot Preparation

  1. Election of Officers
    1. The ballot will include the names of every nominee, grouped by office, and with a box in which to mark the ballot for each name.
    2. A ballot and two envelopes will be provided.

  2. Voting on an Issue
    1. The ballot shall state the issue in positive form. Boxes will be provided underneath to indicate yes and no. Voters will indicate choice by marking appropriate box.
    2. Votes will be cast through paper ballot or electronic ballot sent to the elections chair, as determined by the Executive Board.
Article IV: Voting Procedure
  1. The election will be conducted at the work location of the Unit Representative or at such other location as provided by the Unit Representative.
  2. Ballots and envelopes will be obtained from the Unit Representative at the election location on Election Day or one week prior through the mail or electronically.
  3. Absentee ballots may be requested in writing from the Election Committee Chairperson.
  4. Polling times, dates, and absentee ballot dates will be determined by the Election Committee Chairperson.
  5. The voter will initial or sign the polling list upon receipt of the ballot.
  6. The voter will mark the ballot; place it into an unmarked envelope which is then placed into another envelope on which the voter signs and prints his/her name.
  7. Each voting location will have a locked box, the key of which will be in the possession of the chairperson of the Election Committee.
  8. It is the responsibility of the Unit Representative to safeguard the ballot box.
  9. All ballots will be assembled at a designated place by 5:00 p.m. of the voting day, including the electronic copies.
